The vast majority of my friends and family have no idea how into rock music I am. Of course, they know I like Jimi Hendrix and The Rolling Stones and they may know I love Led Zepplin, but beyond that, they don't have a clue. Sadly enough I don't think most of them know who The Black Keys much less the Arctic Monkeys.
I've come to realize it's my fault. As a lover of music, virtually all forms of music, I'm responsible for sharing good music with the ones I love. For some reason, I shied away from sharing great rock music with family and friends. Maybe I didn't want to feel a sense of rejection if they didn't get it. Possibly, I felt they wouldn't get it, so why bother. I understand now that I gotta give the people I love the benefit of the doubt. We generally have the same background so it's highly likely they would be drawn to like what I like for similar reasons. For example, they're bound to like the funky feel to several songs of Modest Mouse and Cake.
I feel I must be a filter, per se. I must take it all in and let only the grooviest rock come out. By that I mean I must find the funk in rock music. Once this is done it will be more palatable to people who gotta have rhythm in their music. So this is what I've taken on as my task for the people. I must uncover the groove in rock music for my people because only the groove matters in the end.
This is why I've taken it upon myself to extract the groove in the Arctic Monkey catalog and present it in playlist form for all those who don't know what they're missing. Check it out and see what I've distilled.
